Save Ryde

I need your help to Save Ryde from being a State Government target for over development.

  • Between 2014-2018, 63% of all dwellings in Ryde were approved by the Liberal State Government
  • The Liberals have imposed an enormous 7600 new dwelling target on Ryde, to be delivered in 5 years.
  • From 2011, State Government dominated planning panels have approved more than 50 developments comprising of more than 10,000 dwellings in Ryde. Download the full list here.

The Hon. Victor Dominello

Member for Ryde

Dear Mr Dominello,

You and your government have targeted Ryde with over development for too long. Our schools are full, our roads are clogged and State infrastructure just isn't keeping up.

We demand that you abolish Priority Precincts in North Ryde and Macquarie Park and that you exempt Ryde completely from your State Government Medium Density Housing Code.

They are building these 0ne,two bedroom high rise apartments all over Sydney suburb areas in Ryde, Parramatta ,Bankstown ,Liverpool etc… .At $500,000 to million plus prices for these small units. Very few can afford to pay them out right. Most of completed apartments are less than semi filled up and remaining units in these apartments are empty still.

I very much agree that the LGA of Ryde has become over-developed and the lack of foresight from both Local and State governments will be to blame for the future ghettos they have been so busily creating without thinking about future complications arising from overcrowding in our cities and suburbs.

However, I’m taking a bit of a cynical approach to this petition in wondering why our illustrious Mayor has proposed this petition after one of the tallest residential developments in Ryde’s and perhaps Sydney’s history has been approved with the moniker “Laxale Towers.”

With increasing(and ageing) population and urban density, is Ryde Hospital slated for an serious upgrade? Why has Royal North Shore Hospital have such a stranglehold on Ryde DSM Hospital, including staff and cost shifting to benefit RNS as opposed to benefiting the Ryde electorate?

Traffic is dreadful and getting worse, and don’t tell me people who live in units don’t drive cars!!

This over development is criminal to say the least. T’would be interesting to know if similar developments are approved and taking place where Victor Dominello resides and of course, as most folks know, there is no development that is scheduled to take place where the premier, Gladys Berejiklian resides in Northbridge. Who will inhabit these high rise towers? Where are these people coming from? The Ryde Council, Victor Dominello, Gladys Berejiklian etc etc are not to be trusted. My family and I and my friends will certainly not be voting for these untrustworthy politicians. We feel so let down, we feel cheated of our lifestyle, and we hope that the community can find a way to stop these monstrous high rise apartment tower constructions from progressing, as well as stopping the State Government’s anticipated Medium Density Housing Code.

I have also signed the liberal party petition. I don’t care who solves this problem! The real issue is unsustainable population growth, which I’m happy to see is starting to gain attention, but much more needs to be done in that respect. I was once a Labor voter but now tend to vote for Sustainable Australia.

I worry for the landscape of Ryde and what it will do to our community. The aesthetics of Ryde is changing from having a balance between housing and green areas into a concrete jungle. No thought has come about in creating a sophisticated place to live, with lovely garden streets. Where are the rules and where are the boundaries.

where are all of these people coming from? Is it really necessary to build that many apartments in the one area? Assuming they will all be completed and occupied, will we have a solution for instrastructure required to support these numbers?

My family have been residents of Ryde for 4 generations and I grew up and currently live in Eastwood.

The area has deteriorated dramatically in the last 20 years.

I have been told that as I am of European origin I am not welcome in Eastwood.

The increased population density and traffic has destroyed the amenity of what was a pleasant place to live.

Our roads and public infrastructure need more development before the increase in number of dwellings. The traffic is ridiculous already. Let’s focus on priorities – more schools, better roads, open areas rather than turning Sydney into a polluted, overcrowded concrete jungle with ugly sardine boxes for profits.

Every other house in NSW is about to undergo some sort of development. Trees are being chopped down to make way for concrete jungle and current amenities will not be able to cope. I am not against development but this is now OVERdevelopment and it will affect everyone – our mental, emotional and physical health somehow. WE NEED TO STOP!

Development in Ryde is getting out of control – the traffic is terrible if you drive, the buses can’t cope in peak hour and I don’t know why a Top Ryde metro/train station hasn’t seriously been considered in order to cope with the overdevelopment. The high rises need to be stopped and Ryde needs to focus on keeping the current community happy.

There is now an oversupply of units for rent in Ryde. Rental income is dropping.

Self funded retirees who are not a burden on the state and pay increased council rates because of increased property prices and are already suffering from the lowest interest rates in recorded history have now the additional burden of being unable to increase rents to offset increases in rates and other expenses. Reckless borrowing with interest only loans, crazy overdevelopment/crowding, buy and sell capital gain profiteers are rewarded at the expense of careful savers who are in the property market for the longterm and protect long term valuable tenants by keeping their rents lower than market value are punished by this state government who listens to billionaire property developers and lobby groups rather than the voting, rate paying, tax paying public. Overdevelopment/crowding in Ryde benefits NO ONE in Ryde. But hey, you better check with Harry or Alan!! They seem to be the only people this state government listens to.
