  • The Liberals have imposed an enormous 7600 new dwelling target on Ryde, to be delivered in 5 years.
  • From 2011, State Government dominated planning panels have approved more than 50 developments comprising of more than 10,000 dwellings in Ryde. Download the full list here.

The Hon. Victor Dominello

Member for Ryde

Dear Mr Dominello,

You and your government have targeted Ryde with over development for too long. Our schools are full, our roads are clogged and State infrastructure just isn't keeping up.

We demand that you abolish Priority Precincts in North Ryde and Macquarie Park and that you exempt Ryde completely from your State Government Medium Density Housing Code.

Blaming the liberal state government is valid up to a point. Ryde council also needs to be reigned in. It is also complicit. Also the FIRB is not doing its job. Why do we allow off the plan developments to be marketed only to foreigners. Logic suggests ICAC and anti money laundering authorities could find fertile ground here. On the question of immigration, the state govt has come late to the party. A pause is needed while we catch up with infrastructure.

I’ve been living in Ryde since the very first day I stepped foot in Australia, eighteen years ago. From Marsfield to Macquarie Park, Ryde is used to be a nice comfortable and friendly neighbourhood, but now, uncontrolled development in Meadowbank is ridiculous. My neighbourhood is no longer as convenient and as safe as when I first moved in 6 years ago. Many of these new apartments are bought by non-owner-occupied investors and we wouldn’t be able to know and monitor who are moving in and out, making it unsafe. Meadowbank train is also getting over-crowded and worst yet we only have one line with train coming in every 15 minutes. People from surrounding areas driving to nearby the station and park on the residential street. Finding a parking spot around Eastwood is almost impossible even during the weekend. And sometimes it takes me 30 minutes to drive from Meadowbank to Macquarie Park, where it used to be 7-10 minutes top. Ryde is a total mess today compared to a few years back. I’m actually thinking of selling my apartment and move elsewhere less crowded.

Overdevelopment – is to blame by all political parties….There is no accountability – the State Govt blames Ryde Council, and vice -versa.

Eastwood is fast becoming a hot dry treeless place due to council permission to cut down every living thing to make room for some development So sad to see the ruin of once peaceful beautiful suburbs. No such thing as moderation!

Please create a balance between the private development and state housing, as did all previous gov/ts before 1960.Consider to stop migration, to allow rental market to cool down, to make the life of this areas’ residents worth living. At this stage we don’t feel that we are in our country anymore.

I have lived in North Ryde for 42 years an I know what I’m feeling and seeing. I am mostly a Liberal voter and I’m disgusted and suffocating in the overdevelopment of our Suburb! You have ruined it! Absolutely ruined what we had. It’s too late now. What are you going to do, pull all those ugly towering apartments down? Stop it NOW!!
